Toyota South Africa has turned its attention to the more utilitarian side of things by reworking its Hilux 2.5 D-4D SRX Xtra Cab which now comes with a raised body.
Replacing the standard-height model, the Hilux’s ground clearance has increased from 181mm to 212mm, while the approach angle and departure angle improve from 21 to 30 degrees and 18 to 23 degrees respectively.
After taking its customer’s demands into consideration, this new Xtra Cab addresses the need for increased ride height and ground clearance, as well as improved approach and departure angles to tackle challenging terrain. Replacing the previous 17-inch wheels, the Xtra Cab now comes with heavy-duty 16-inch steel wheels, built for strength and to overcome rough roads.
The specification of the Raised Body version has also been aligned to other SRX models. That means the newcomer is “de-chromed” and now features black-cladding for the door handles and side-mirrors. Inside, the SRX now features rough-weave fabric upholstery.
Under the bonnet, a 2.5-litre turbo-diesel still does duty, making 75kW at 3600rpm and 260Nm between 1600rpm and 2400rpm. Standard equipment includes air-con, audio system (with USB), Bluetooth, electric windows, alarm/immobiliser, dual front airbags and ABS.
Toyota continues to remain loyal to its buyers; despite all the enhancements on the vehicle and forever changing quarter price increase, the new Hilux’s selling price is R298 700, merely R5000 over the previous model. It also includes a three-year or 100 000 km warranty and a five-year or 90 000 km service plan.
