There is just something different about driving a special edition model of a certain marque. It could be described as being, ‘exceptionally unordinary,’ and despite sharing similar underpinnings with its siblings – there is a certain novelty attached to it.
Beloved bakkie brand, Isuzu proved that they know something about standing out from the crowd by introducing the Isuzu KB Midnite Edition towards the end of 2014. Ensuring exclusivity, only 500 units were produced. Now they have decided to step out of the twilight and into the Serengeti, with an exclusive model dubbed the Serengeti Edition.
According to Isuzu, it blends a rugged Serengeti theme with classic sophistication. From the pictures, it seems the designers managed to enhance the personality of the off-road darling while retaining an air of urban chic. Based on the flagship KB 300 LX Double Cab, the Serengeti received a host of cosmetic enhancements.
Some of the exterior tweaks include a bumper guard, featuring silver accents and a black coated B-pillar. Adding some contrast in the design are silver roof-rails and a chrome sports bar. Supplementing the masculine nature of the bakkie are a set of beefy 18-inch alloys, shod with all-terrain tyres. Prominent decals and badges identify it as the special Serengeti edition.
The interior is equally distinguishable as it hosts a combination of brushed silver, chrome and black finish. Making sure anyone climbing into the cab recognise this as a Serengeti edition, it sports unique carpets and chrome door sill plates. Three Serengeti models will be available, all propelled by Isuzu’s 3.0-litre D-TEQ diesel engine, producing 130kW of power and 380Nm of torque. It costs on average R25 000 more than its standard counterparts. Included is a five-year/120 000km warranty and five-year/90 000km service plan.
