McLaren Automotive today confirmed that McLaren Special Operations (MSO) will be building a luxuriously appointed ‘Super GT’ codenamed the BP23 (Bespoke Project 2 and featuring 3 seats). Yes, three seats – just like you used to find in the legendary Gordon Murray-penned McLaren F1 that was the undisputed teenage-dream poster car of the 1990s.
So this means that you can scare not just one but two passengers as your right foot unleashes what will no doubt be an astronomical amount of power. How much power? Well we can’t give you an exact number but we can tell you that this McLaren will sport a hybrid powertrain similar to the one already doing duty in the P1. So expect a veritable shitload of the stuff. Further details on the BP23 remain sketchy but we can confirm that it will offer dihedral doors, a carbon-fibre body and endless scope for customization.
According to the press release “Future owners will work alongside MSO to create their own bespoke cars, being able to select colour, trim and other points of personalisation unique to them.” Design work has already begun (see weird abstract sketch above) and McLaren hopes to deliver the first BP23s to customers early in 2019. Production has been capped to just 106 examples and, surprise, surprise, every last one has been spoken for. – Thomas Falkiner
