Porsche has revealed its new Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid, marking the first time the sports car manufacturer launches a plug-in hybrid vehicle as the flagship of a model line. It will be unveiled at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show.

The four-litre V8 engine from the Panamera Turbo is combined with an electric motor, resulting in a total of 500kW. Adapting the boost strategy from the 918 Spyder, the new model offers 850Nm of torque resulting in a claimed 0-100km/h time of just 3.4 seconds and a top speed of 310km/h.

With a fully electric driving distance of up to 50km, the average fuel consumption is claimed to be 2.9l/100km.

It combines a 100kW electric motor with a V8 engine generating 404kW. The decoupler installed in the hybrid module is activated electromechanically by an electric clutch actuator, just like in the Panamera 4 E-Hybrid.

The electric motor is supplied with power via a liquid-cooled lithium ion battery with an energy capacity of 14.1kWh.The battery integrated in the rear is fully charged in six hours via the standard 3.6kW on-board charger and a 230V power supply with 10A.

If the optional 7.2kW on-board charger and a 230V connection with 32A is used instead, the charging time is reduced to just 2.4 hours.

Owners have the choice of starting the charging process manually or by using a timer.

It will always start in purely electric “E-Power” mode and will continue to drive in this mode for up to 50km with zero emissions. When the driver passes a specific pressure point in the accelerator pedal or when the battery charge level drops below a minimum value the system switches to “Hybrid Auto” mode automatically with both engines working. – BD Motor News

Pricing for the new model starts at R2,931,000.
