The Mitsubishi Eclipse. You might remember it from the first Fast and Furious movie. Or from the first Need For Speed Underground video game. If you don’t then all you need to know is that the Eclipse was a sports compact vehicle available as a coupé or a convertible.
Most of them were front wheel-drive, some of them were all wheel-drive, none of them really set the asphalt or the world alight. Which is probably why Mitsubishi pulled the production plug in 2011. Well now it appears that the sun is rising on the Eclipse once again.
According to Mitsubishi it is being reborn as a crossover. The new Eclipse Cross, as it will be known, shall be officially unveiled at the 87th Geneva International Motor Show in March.
Apparently its form “serves to bring about the same sense of excitement and inspiration as the diamond ring seen immediately before and after a total solar eclipse does.” Sounds somewhat optimistic if you ask me – especially considering the teaser pic above – but let’s wait and see. – Thomas Falkiner
