Chevrolet might be pulling out of the country but Opel today announced that it will remain in South Africa. This is good news for Opel fans as there was much uncertainty about the marque’s future in the local market after General Motors last month announced that they would cease operating in South Africa.
Instead Opel, which General Motors is busy selling to the PSA Group of Peugeot and Citroen fame, intends to strengthen its local positioning by expanding its product range. The German car brand will launch the new Crossland X in the second half of 2017 and the Grandland X in 2018. The Williams Hunt group has been appointed as the dedicated distributor to both distribute and sell the Opel brand in South Africa, effective January 2018. – Thomas Falkiner
