The Scirocco might have gotten lost in the periphery of Volkswagen’s vast line-up, with models like the Golf GTI and R taking the spotlight. Now the automaker has decided to remind buyers of its existence in the sport coupe ambit, with a refreshed model for 2015.
Its aggressive looking countenance sports bigger headlights and larger cooling inlets. The lower section of the bumper wears aerodynamic “blades” just like the Golf GTI. At the rear, LED taillights feature in addition to a black diffuser and the VW emblem now swings upwards, serving as a handle for opening the boot.
There are five new colours to pick from: Flash Red, Black Oak, Oryx White, Ultra Violet and Pyramid Gold. Inside, the dashboard takes on a more streamlined look and the steering wheel was lifted from the GTI. Clearer display graphics and classy silver trim around the ventilation slots aim for a more premium feel.
But engine choices remain the same. The 1.4 TSI (118kW and 240Nm) still caters to entry buyers, while the 2.0 TSI (155kW and 280Nm) offers a little more punch. The Scirocco R hasn’t adopted the new powertrain from the Golf, continuing with its 188kW mill. Expect to pay R355,200 for the 1.4 TSI Highline. The 2.0 TSI Sportline DSG costs R419,100 and the R version costs R489,300.
