Mercedes-Benz is recalling more than 10,500 C-Class (W205) sedans in the US because a production error causes steering wheels to squeak and resist turning.
Spokeswoman for Mercedes-Benz South Africa, Shirle Greig, confirmed that local models are affected too. The number of units affected is still being investigated.
“In the event that the steering coupling interlock mechanism should not have been properly locked, noises might become perceptible and the steering ability of the vehicle might be affected,” said Greig.
“As a precautionary measure, the steering coupling interlock mechanism of the potentially affected vehicles will be checked. The expected workshop visit will take around 30 minutes at no cost to the customer.”
Owners are urged to contact the Mercedes-Benz customer care line on 0800 133 355 for more information.
