Earlier this year at the Detroit Motor Show Ford whipped the wraps off its new Bullitt Mustang – special-edition built to pay homage to the iconic GT 390 Fastback driven by Steve McQueen in the classic 1968 movie, Bullitt. Back then Ford said that there was no chance of it coming to South Africa. Well, that’s just changed. In 2019 a limited number of these trick ponies will indeed be trotting across our shores.
Available in Dark Highland Green or Shadow Black (although lord knows why you’d choose the latter), the Bullitt Mustang comes armed with a few performance tweaks to help you better chase down the baddies. Equipped with an open-air induction system, Shelby GT350 intake manifold and active valve performance exhaust system, the familiar 5.0-litre V8 now produces a claimed 357kW and 569Nm worth of torque. A six-speed manual gearbox with rev-matching is the only transmission available.
Some of the interior highlights include a 12-inch all-digital LCD instrument cluster, heated steering wheel and Recaro Ebony Black leather-trimmed seats with unique green accent stitching. Steve McQueen would approve methinks.
Local pricing and spec levels will be confirmed closer to local introduction. – Thomas Falkiner
