Hot Wheels has announced it will be celebrating its 50th anniversary with a year-long series of events and new product releases.
Created back in 1968 by an innovator, a rocket scientist and a car designer, Hot Wheels now sells nearly 500-million cars each year.
To celebrate its success and anniversary, the brand will be hosting live experiences across the world and throughout the year to bring fans together.
One of these year-long events will be the Hot Wheels Legends Tour, which will search for a custom car to be made into a Hot Wheels die-cast toy. There will also be a series of Hot Wheel Challengers, which will give kids in the US a chance to take place in contests in BMX, skating, karting.
Fans can also add to their collection with five replicas from Hot Wheels original “Sweet 16” range, specially released for the anniversary. There will also be the Hot Wheels Augmoto, a smart-device-controlled track-set, and a range of remote-controlled cars released as part of Hot Wheels partnership with Rocket League due out later in the year.
Serious collectors may also want to get their hand on The Hot Wheels Book by Assouline, a collectors’ item detailing the history of the beloved toy, and the 50th Anniversary Commemorative Coin, only 5 000 of which will be released this year. – AFP Relaxnews (Pic: WikiMedia Commons)
