Earlier this month Mercedes-Benz confirmed that it is resurrecting its defunct uber-luxury brand Maybach. And here it is. The new model is based on the stellar S-Class, but takes levels of luxury to a higher tier.
The Maybach S600 is set apart from its “lesser” sibling by extra space, a more lavish interior and a greater scope for individualisation. Its wheelbase has grown by 21cm, giving the car a hub-to-hub measurement of 337 cm and a total length of 541 cm.
“The history of prestige vehicles made by Daimler extends back to the earliest days of the motor car. We have now commenced a new chapter with the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class.
“As an addition to the portfolio of S-Class saloons, the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class sets new standards in the luxury segment. The vehicle satisfies the very highest requirements in termsof exclusivity appointments and comfort,” says Ola Kallenius, member of the Divisional Board of Mercedes-Benz Cars responsible for sales. Alongside Mercedes-AMG, Mercedes-Maybach is the second sub-brand in the Mercedes-Benz catalogue.
The Mercedes-Maybach S 600 packs a V12 biturbo engine with an output of 395kW, a displacement of 5980 cc and a maximum torque figure of 830 Nm. The V8 biturbo engine in the S 500 generates an output of 339 kW with a displacement of 4663 cc.
Its interior is set up like a first-class airline cabin. The roomy, Nappa leather-clad rear features two foldout tables, drink warmers and coolers, hand-stitched door trim, a personal TV screen, and two silver-plated champagne flutes. Now who wouldn’t want that in their car?
The market launch of the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class is scheduled for February 2015. According to Mercedes-Benz SA, we can expect the Maybach S-Class to go on sale in the 4th quarter of 2015 and prices will be announced closer to release date.
